The Maharashtra Excise Department's Vasai section recently seized a business that made phoney caps for well-known alcoholic beverage brands. The ED apprehended 5 suspects and seized over 2 lakh caps and machinery used to create them during the raid, which was carried out in collaboration with the Palghar unit of the department and valued at Rs 16,57,700.

Police have booked a Vasai-based hospital for releasing a 55-year-old patient’s body before its Covid-19 test results were out. The next day, the hospital confirmed to the relatives that the patient had tested positive. Besides, more than 500 people are reported to have attended the funeral, without maintaining social distancing norms.

In another incident of attack on Sadhus (saints) in Maharashtra's Palghar, three unidentified men barged into Jagrut Mahadev Mandir and Ashram at Balivali in Vasai and attacked the temple's priests in the early hours of Thursday (May 28). The attackers fled with valuables worth Rs 6,800.

Palghar lynching case accused tests positive
Of the 115 arrested accused in the Palghar lynching case wherein 3 people were murdered, one 55-year-old accused has tested positive for Covid-19, confirmed Dr Dinkar Gavit, medical superintendent of Rural Hospital, Palghar. The accused was arrested by Kasa police on April 17 and has since been in lockup along with 20 other accused in the case. He was produced before the Dahanu court and has been remanded in police custody till 14 May. The arrested accused in the case have been lodged in different police stations in a bid to avoid overcrowding amid lockdown.
