The Vasai jeweller robbery that left a local shop owner critically injured took a dramatic turn after police arrested two suspects within hours of the violent attack.

On Tuesday afternoon, panic gripped Vasai East when jeweller Kalu Singh, owner of Ambika Jewellers in Waliv, was brutally assaulted inside his shop during what police believe was a preplanned robbery. The Vasai jeweller robbery unfolded around 12:30 p.m. when Singh was alone and arranging gold ornaments in the showcase.

Shocking Daylight Assault

According to the Waliv Police, two masked individuals entered the shop pretending to be customers. Within moments, they allegedly attacked Singh with a knife, grabbed jewellery from the counters, and quickly escaped. The Vasai jeweller robbery left Singh with severe injuries and struggling for help.

The horrifying incident came to light when Singh stepped out of his store drenched in blood. Locals immediately gathered and, due to the unavailability of an ambulance, rushed him to Platinum Hospital in an autorickshaw.

Local resident Yusuf Khan, who helped the injured jeweller, recalled the chaos:
“None of us knew what happened until we saw him walking out covered in blood. It was shocking, and our first thought was to get him medical help.”

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Vasai) Poornima Chaougule Shringi confirmed that police reacted promptly after receiving the alert. Teams were dispatched, nakabandis were set up, and CCTV footage from the area was thoroughly scanned as part of the manhunt.

Breakthrough in the Crime Branch Operation

The case progressed rapidly the same day thanks to the swift action of Crime Branch Unit 4 of the Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar Police Commissionerate. The team cracked the case within hours, identifying the attackers involved in the Vasai jeweller robbery.

The investigation revealed a shocking detail: this was not a simple robbery attempt. The accused duo entered the shop with a child to appear harmless. The incident reportedly took place around 11:57 a.m. at Ambika Jewellers near Shalimar Hotel, just minutes before the initial assault reported earlier.

According to officials, when jeweller Kalusingh Kharvat, the complainant’s brother, stepped into the inner room to fetch water for the child, the male accused followed him and launched a brutal knife attack. Kalusingh suffered multiple stab wounds to his abdomen, hands, cheek, chin, and forearm. The attacker allegedly attempted to kill him before fleeing.

A case was immediately registered at Waliv Police Station under relevant sections for attempted murder and robbery.

Technical Surveillance Leads to Quick Arrest

Acting under instructions from senior officers, the Crime Branch team used CCTV footage, technical intelligence, and confidential sources to track the suspects. Their efforts led them to the Nashik Road area, where they detained the two accused.

The arrested individuals were identified as:

  • Sohel Sharafat Khan (23)
  • Firdos Bano Sohel Khan

Both are residents of Tehroli, District Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh and were found actively involved in the Vasai jeweller robbery. They have been handed over to Waliv Police for further investigation.

A police officer from Waliv confirmed that one victim remains in critical condition, while the second is stable and undergoing treatment. His statement will be recorded once doctors deem him fit.

Police Continue Probe to Recover Stolen Jewellery
