The Vasai honeytrap case has sent shockwaves through Palghar district after police arrested two women accused of drugging and robbing men they met through dating apps. What appeared to be casual conversations online turned into a dramatic crime story when unsuspecting victims were lured to lodges, offered spiked drinks and later robbed of valuables worth lakhs.

According to investigators, the accused women—both residents of Mumbai—operated a planned honeytrap racket targeting men specifically across Vasai and nearby regions. The Mandvi police crime branch managed to trace and arrest them from Malad following detailed scrutiny of CCTV footage and technical surveillance. Authorities have recovered stolen goods worth over ₹4 lakh, with further investigations underway.

How the Vasai Honeytrap Case Was Exposed

The case came to light after a 31-year-old man from Mandvi fell victim to a planned trap. He matched with one of the women on the dating app Happn and agreed to meet her at a lodge on 22 November. Moments after sharing drinks with her and her accomplice, the victim suddenly lost consciousness.

When he regained awareness the next morning, he discovered that:

  • His gold chain had vanished
  • His mobile phone was missing
  • His smartwatch was stolen

The stolen valuables amounted to ₹1.83 lakh, prompting him to file a police complaint.

Shockingly, police reported that a similar incident occurred just one day later on 23 November, involving another man who was drugged and robbed in the same way. That case was registered at Kashimira Police Station, adding urgency to the investigation.

Inside the Modus Operandi: Digital Disguise & Deletion

Officials revealed that the criminals followed a detailed, well-planned procedure designed to erase traces and avoid identification. Their strategy included:

  • Creating fake dating app profiles with fabricated identities
  • Using temporary mobile numbers
  • Uploading blurred or low-quality profile photos
  • Avoiding any online payments to prevent digital traces
  • Immediately deleting profiles after each crime

Their digital anonymity was broken only after CCTV footage helped track their movement, eventually leading officers to their location in Malad.

Senior Police Inspector Ranjit Andhale said that identifying behavioral patterns was critical to solving the case.
“Understanding their modus operandi helped the Mandvi police trace and apprehend the suspects within two days, successfully solving the case,” he stated.
