Vasai milk adulteration has come under the scanner after the Mumbai Crime Branch busted an alleged counterfeit milk packaging operation in Vasai East and arrested four people in connection with the case.

The operation followed a raid in Dahisar East, where investigators allegedly found milk pouches being tampered with before being resealed and sold as genuine branded products.

According to police, the investigation uncovered an alleged network that had been manufacturing counterfeit milk packaging and supplying it to people involved in milk adulteration across Mumbai and its suburbs.

Vasai Milk Adulteration Probe Leads to Factory

The investigation was initiated on July 9, 2026, after officers from Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 12 received information about the alleged distribution of adulterated milk in Dahisar East.

Police subsequently raided a room at Rajesh Compound in the Dahisar East area. Investigators allegedly found suspects tampering with packaged milk.

According to the police investigation, genuine milk pouches of established brands were allegedly cut open, some of the original milk was removed and replaced with unhygienic water. The pouches were then reportedly resealed before being prepared for sale.

The action resulted in the seizure of approximately 470 litres of adulterated milk, along with counterfeit milk pouches, equipment allegedly used in the operation and mobile phones.

Two suspects were arrested during the initial action.

Vasai Milk Adulteration Investigation Reaches Waliv

During questioning, investigators allegedly obtained information about the person suspected of being behind the counterfeit packaging operation.

Police later tracked down and arrested the alleged main accused in Telangana.

The subsequent investigation reportedly revealed that counterfeit milk pouches had allegedly been manufactured and supplied to milk adulterators in Mumbai and surrounding areas for several years.

Police then followed the leads to Waliv Phata in Vasai East, where they allegedly discovered a factory involved in producing the packaging material.

The location was reportedly situated near Laxmi Industrial Estate.

Fake Milk Pouch Factory Busted in Vasai East

The Crime Branch seized printing and pouch-making machinery from the Vasai factory.

According to investigators, the machinery was allegedly being used to manufacture plastic pouches resembling those used by well-known milk brands. Printing equipment was also reportedly used to reproduce brand logos and other packaging details.

The discovery is significant because it allegedly exposed a broader supply chain behind the Vasai milk adulteration case.

Instead of only targeting individuals involved in mixing or selling adulterated milk, investigators reportedly uncovered a facility allegedly supplying counterfeit packaging to help make the adulterated product appear genuine.

Police said the main accused had allegedly been involved in supplying counterfeit milk pouches since 2021.

₹10.79 Lakh Worth of Material Seized

The Mumbai Crime Branch reportedly seized property worth approximately ₹10.79 lakh during the investigation.

The seizure included:

  • Around 470 litres of adulterated milk, valued at approximately ₹29,750.
  • Approximately 13,000 counterfeit empty milk pouches and related plastic material.
  • Printing and pouch-making machinery worth around ₹10 lakh.
  • Four mobile phones valued at approximately ₹40,000.
  • Other equipment and material allegedly connected with the operation.

The seizure of the machinery is one of the key developments in the Vasai milk adulteration investigation, as police believe it could establish how counterfeit packaging was manufactured and supplied to other parts of the Mumbai metropolitan region.

Four Arrested in Vasai Milk Adulteration Case

Police have arrested four people in connection with the case.

The accused have been identified as Ramulu Guruvaryya Bodupally, 65, Lingaya Bhikshamaya Ganta, 42, Saidulu Yadaya Jangili, 33, and Yadaya Chandraya Batulla, 46.

According to the information provided by police, the alleged main accused was arrested in Telangana after investigators obtained details about his role during the initial questioning.

The investigation is continuing to determine the exact roles played by the other accused and whether additional people were involved in manufacturing, transporting, supplying or selling the counterfeit packaging and adulterated milk.

Why the Case Matters for Milk Consumers

The alleged operation has raised concerns because counterfeit packaging can make adulterated food products difficult for consumers to identify.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulates food safety and standards in India, including requirements concerning milk, hygiene and food handling. Consumers can also access FSSAI resources on identifying different forms of food adulteration, including adulteration involving milk.

For residents of Vasai-Virar, the case is particularly important because the alleged manufacturing facility was located in the Waliv industrial belt of Vasai East.

Police Investigation Continues

A case has been registered at Dahisar Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Police said the crackdown has helped uncover an alleged network connecting counterfeit packaging production with the adulteration and distribution of milk.

However, the investigation is not yet over.

Authorities are now working to identify other people who may have been involved in the supply chain and determine the extent to which counterfeit packaging was distributed to milk adulterators in Mumbai and nearby areas.

The Vasai milk adulteration case also highlights the importance of checking packaged food carefully and purchasing milk only through trusted sources.
