Due to people not following social distancing even amidst COVID-19 lockdown, all vegetable markets in the Vasai-Virar region will be shut for four days from Monday.
The number of positive cases in the Palghar district has gone up to 16, including two deaths. And most of the cases are from Vasai- Virar region.
District collector Dr Kailash Shinde on Sunday announced all vegetable markets will remain shut from April 6 to 9.
Vegetable vendors too will not be allowed to hawk.
Despite lockdown, markets in the Vasai- Virar region are crowded. Vendors were allowed to hawk door-to-door and housing societies were allowed to permit vegetable vendors on their premises for specific hours. Yet vegetable markets have been crowded, forcing authorities to shut them down.
