Uniformed traffic cops on Monday caught motorists heading to Mumbai by surprise, when they were seen filling potholes on the busy Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway at Vasai.
The two policemen, donning masks and armed with a spade, were drawing sand from the divider and filling the pothole on the Mumbai side main lane at Maljipada in Vasai (east).
Massive potholes on the highway has led to slowing down of vehicles on the highway. As traffic piled up in the morning, API Narendra Vade of the Chinchoti traffic post along with two cops decided to fill few of the potholes on the main lane.
Police said that the bad condition of the highway, which has worsened after heavy rains last week, has been brought to the notice of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). Police said that despite fewer vehicles on the highway, there is massive traffic snarl as cars and heavy vehicles have to dodge several potholes. Two-wheeler riders have been warned to be cautious while driving on the highway.
