A tragic love triangle concluded with the murder of a 20-year-old Malwani man by his girlfriend’s former boyfriend. Deepak Katukar, the victim, had been missing since May 12, and his body was discovered in Vasai Creek on May 14.
The incident occurred on May 12 when Katukar allegedly went out to meet his pals but did not come home, according to Kandivli police. Katukar had acquaintances in the region, his mother told the police, because they used to reside in Kandivli, and he walked out that day to meet them. “We found two of Katukar’s acquaintances using his phone data records,” a police officer stated, “who told us that Katukar saw them first but then went to meet Suraj Vishwakarma, 27, at the Sarovar Hotel in Kandivli West.” They were requested to leave because the two had personal problems to discuss, they alleged.
“According to one of his pals and his mother, Vishwakarma murdered Katukar and put his body in a nearby drain.” We checked four drains after that but couldn’t find him,” he added.
In the meantime, the detectives obtained Vishwakarma’s call data record, which revealed that he was near the Bhayander railway bridge on the day Katukar vanished. “When we reached him, we learned that he had recently returned to his village of Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh. “Under the direction of ACP Shailendra Dhivar, a squad was created that travelled to Jaunpur and apprehended him,” a police officer said.
Vishwakarma confessed to the crime during interrogation, claiming that he killed Katukar because he was in love with his girlfriend.
He claimed that he and the woman had been in a relationship before, but that they had broken up a few years ago due to pressure from the woman’s family. When she began a relationship with Katukar, he became infuriated.
He told the cops that he met Katukar at Kandivli and went to Bhayander. They bought beer and were walking on the railway bridge when he pushed Katukar into the creek and fled from the spot, said inspector Sadashiv Sawant.
