First train with migrants to leave for Gorakhpur from Vasai

The first special train from Palghar district carrying migrants will leave from the Vasai Road railway station, early Sunday.

The train is headed for Gorakhpur junction in Uttar Pradesh. Around 1,200 migrants in camps have been issued tickets for the travel.

Details of the migrants have been taken. They have been medically examined for coronavirus symptoms.

The migrants have been made to sit outside the Vasai railway station by following social distancing norm. They have been asked to wear masks and wait patiently for the train to arrive.

Each ticket costs Rs 740. The distance to be covered is 1806 kms. Food packets will be given to the migrants.

Police and traffic personnel have been stationed outside the station to ensure smooth movement of the migrants to the train.

The district administration has appealed to migrants to not panic and fill their travel forms.

The ticket counters were opened in the evening and migrants ensured that they stood in queue without creating any confusion.

Migrants said that all they wanted was to get to their native towns without any hassle.

Over 5,500 migrants are stranded in Palghar district.
