Amid a surge in cases, a film crew erecting a set in Suncity, Vasai, was booked for violation of Covid-19 norms, including wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.
The Manickpur police in Vasai (west) on Thursday registered a case under Sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 269 (act likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life) of the IPC and sections of the Disaster Management Act.
Senior inspector Bhausaheb Ahire said that the crew of Ajay Devgn Films had begun work on the set from March 24.
On Thursday, when a police team on rounds reached the ground at Suncity, several labourers and crew members were engaged in erecting the set.
Most of them were either without masks or masks which had dropped below the chin. Several sheds were erected where food was served without maintaining any Covid-19 norms.
Crew members were found seated under sheds without masks and social distancing.
Police said that while the Vasai tehsildar had given permission to use the ground for the shooting, the required civic and police permissions were not sought.
Police said that the crew has been asked to pull down the sets.
The Vasai-Virar region has seen a surge in cases. Last month, 2,815 positive patients were detected, compared to 570 in February and 582 in January. The deaths last month was 15. The total cases till Friday was 33,854 in the region, including 118 deaths.
Several restrictions, including shutting of malls and public places from 8pm to 7am is inforce in the region.
The region has been facing a shortage of vaccines and has been unable to vaccinate the required number of persons above 45.
Several film and television actors have recently tested positive. Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday while hinting at strict restrictions, including a lockdown in the coming days, urged people to mask up and maintain social distancing.
