Bodybuilder ends life at Virar home

A 35-year-old bodybuilder, who won championships at the taluka and state level, allegedly hanged himself at his Virar home on Friday. Ali Salmani did not leave behind a suicide note, but a financial crunch is believed to have driven him to take the extreme step.

His wife found him in the bedroom of their flat at Shiv Leela Apartment, Virar (east) around 9am, when she came back home after dropping their three children to school. Salmani was alone at home when he ended his life.

Salmani had won the ‘Junior Maharashtra Shree’ state championship, and the ‘Vasai Shree’ three times. He used to coach bodybuilders in Vasai. The police have registered a case of accidental death, and are waiting for an autopsy report to ascertain the cause of death.
