After a fire broke out in a 12-story VasaiCity building, almost 60 people were rescued.

Local officials say more than 60 people were rescued after a fire broke out at a 12-story building in VasaiCity, Maharashtra’s Palghar district, on Friday afternoon. The fire was quickly put out, and no one was hurt, according to the authorities.

Around 3.30 p.m., a fire broke out in the eighth-floor corridor, presumably due to a short circuit, according to a fire department officer.

The fire entered the property and spread swiftly, while smoke spread to the levels above, he added, when the inhabitants of a unit on the floor opened the door. While the occupants inside were able to flee immediately, the unit was left in shambles, he noted. The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation’s fire department responded to the scene and extinguished the flames within half an hour, according to the official.

Over 60 people of the building were safely rescued, including an old and ill woman stranded on the ninth level, he said.
