The Gaimukh–Payegaon Creek Bridge is emerging as one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), promising faster travel, smoother freight movement, and improved connectivity for residents of Vasai-Virar, Thane, Mira-Bhayandar and Bhiwandi.

Approved by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) at an estimated cost of ₹975.58 crore, the Gaimukh–Payegaon Creek Bridge spans approximately 6.509 kilometres.

The bridge will connect Gaimukh on Ghodbunder Road with Payegaon in Bhiwandi Taluka, ultimately linking to the Chinchoti–Anjurphata Road.

For years, Ghodbunder Road has remained the primary east-west corridor connecting Thane, Mira Road, Borivali, Vasai-Virar and Bhiwandi. Besides daily commuters, the route also carries thousands of heavy commercial vehicles transporting goods towards Palghar, Vapi and Gujarat.

This combination of passenger and freight traffic has resulted in severe congestion, particularly between Gaimukh and Kasarvadavali, affecting travel times and creating bottlenecks across Thane’s western suburbs.

The Gaimukh–Payegaon Creek Bridge is expected to significantly ease this burden by offering an alternative cross-creek route.

A New Freight Corridor for Western Maharashtra

One of the biggest advantages of the Gaimukh–Payegaon Creek Bridge is its role as a dedicated logistics connector.

Once operational, heavy vehicles travelling between NH-48 (Mumbai–Ahmedabad Highway) and the industrial hubs of Bhiwandi and Anjurphata will no longer need to pass through the crowded stretches of Ghodbunder Road.
