The Arnala police in Virar have arrested Sikand Shaikh, 43, for allegedly strangulating a 40-year-old call girl after they had a spat over the payment of Rs 400. The case was especially tricky because the police are yet to identify the woman.
On 18 April, the body of a woman was found strangulated to death with a dupatta, near a desolate spot in the Peninsula Park area in Virar (W). There was no identification on the body.
On scanning the CCTV footage from nearby areas, the cops managed to identify a rickshaw driver who had dropped the victim and the accused at the spot. “He had approached the victim on the night of April 17 as he wanted to satisfy his sexual urge. He picked her up from Virar station,” said senior PI KD Kolhe, Arnala coastal police.
According to the police, the woman demanded Rs 1,000 for her services but Shaikh only had Rs 600 on him, to which the victim agreed. The duo hired an auto and reached the spot. After they had sex, the victim demanded an additional Rs 400 and a heated argument ensued. And in a fit of rage, Shaikh strangulated the victim to death using her own dupatta.
The police have charged Shaikh with rape and murder after he confessed to the crime. The Vasai court has remanded the accused to police custody till 17 May.
