Man accused of molesting Jet airhostess, lands in custody

Days after three members of a leading Goan football club were arrested for allegedly misbehaving with an airhostess, a passenger on the Jet Airways’ Hong Kong-Mumbai flight was arrested early on Sunday morning for allegedly molesting an airhostess. Brown Augustine D’Souza (56), a Vasai resident, was arrested by the Sahar police around 12.30 am.

According to police, the incident took place around 9.30 pm on board the flight when D’Souza, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, molested an airhostess and behaved rudely with the other staff.

Sub inspector Ganesh Pawar of Sahar police said, “D’Souza who works for a private shipping cargo company in Mumbai inappropriately touched the airhostess on several occasions. He also misbehaved with another airhostess and was abusive when the cabin crew warned him.

“He had gone on a work-related trip to China on a ship around six months ago. He was returning home on Saturday. The airline crew handed him over to us once they landed at Mumbai airport. He was produced before the holiday court, which granted him bail against a surety of Rs 5,000.”

According to the police, the accused had taken a few drinks offered on the flight. “We have sent him for medical tests.”

A Jet Airways spokesperson confirmed the incident. “One of the guests on board our Hong Kong-Mumbai service on Saturday appeared to be in an inebriated state. He was disruptive and abusive. As per national and international procedures, we handed over the individual concerned to the airport security upon arrival at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai.”
